The DOONS x Sofia Machray Winter Tour is coming to a town near you this August; Yo Vocal sat down with Sofia Machray and DOONS vocalist Elliott Dawson to talk all things tour bound.
Sailing in on the eve of Spring, it’s about time to have a night out. This co-headlined tour is one not to miss, stopping in Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Queenstown. Excited about five dates over three weekends, and with an eight-seater van booked and at the ready, Elliott and Sofia are looking forward to what’s to come.
“It feels like it’s been in the works forever, so it’s exciting to let it loose on the world,” Elliott says.
Bringing the indie scene of Pōneke to the corners of our country, both are keen to cultivate the narrative of a strong community and scene.
Self-described as “indie froth rock”, DOONS will be bringing a heavier sound to the tour. With unreleased singles on the setlist, there’s talk of a new single before the New Year. But with a new drummer, Elliott tells me they’re swinging in a fresh direction of brit-rock.
“We’re kind of going through a process of having a new bandmember and seeing where it will naturally take the sound before we release anything,” Elliott says.
For indie artist Sofia Machray, there’s a new single on the way. A few treats in hand, she’ll be playing some brand new songs on tour. Her dreamy April release Milky Ways will be making an appearance, too.
With the recent announcement of supporting acts Lévyne (Tāmaki Makaurau), Alba Rose (Pōneke), and Neive Strang (Ōtepoti), there’s much to froth about. Sofia will be headlining the South, and DOONS will be headlining the North. Both are excited to join forces and bring together their fans.
“It’s going to be fun,” they laugh. “Bring your mum for a boogie!”
