Festival season is just around the corner and this year it’s set to be a banger. After the hair pulling stress of exams are done and dusted, the calendar fills up pretty quickly and before you can say goodbye to Study Link, you’ll be cruising between festies like sardines crammed in a van. The life.

The infamous Wairarapa festival Tora Bombora is back for round two, and this year it’s going to be bigger than ever. Following on from last year’s sell out event, creator Louis Murphy-Harris has upped the ante and transformed the backyard groove fest into a two-day bonanza.

With an epic line-up alone of local talent including Marlins Dreaming and Lord Echo, tickets will not last long, but if you need a little extra inspiration, we’ve compiled a list five reasons why you should join us on the Tora Bombora dance floor.

1: It’s eco AF

There is a complete ban of single use plastics and on entry every festival goer is given a cassava root compostable bag to store their waste in. The waste policy is bring your own, take your own.

2: Prime time

After the New Years four-day bender, this festie is perfectly timed to keep the good vibes going.

3: The Bombora community

The festival is centered around community, good vibes and celebrating emerging artists.

4: Digital detox

Tora is an isolated place on the east coast of the North Island in the Wairarapa. That means no shops, no reception and no stress. How fucking good.

5: Beach vibes

The location is right by the beach and I mean right by the beach, with pumping waves nearby scoring some sick ones is exactly what a morning at Tora looks like.

Tora Bombora is about enjoying music without harming the environment in the process. The festival goes from January 17 to 19 and with earlybird tickets selling out in five minutes, you better get your skates on if you want to be grooving in the ‘rapa.
